Prior to 2002, Pennsylvania residents could legally obtain a driver’s license with a tax ID number or ITIN, a federally issued identifier used to pay taxes by those who do not have a social security number. In 2009, however, PennDot canceled this way of obtaining licenses and left tens of thousands of undocumented Pennsylvanians without access to a driver’s license. This causes fear and stress within the immigrant community, especially those who are undocumented and families with mixed immigration statuses. Moreover, it harms PA’s economy and makes our roads less safe for everyone.
In 2022, Woori Center made over 86,000 calls to about 27,000 Asian Americans in Pennsylvania regarding Driver’s Licenses for All. 79% of our respondents supported extending driving privileges to all Pennsylvanians regardless of immigration status. Now, it is time to push for victory, but we need your support. Please contribute what you can; there is no amount too small or too big. 2022년 우리센터는 펜주에 거주하는 약 27,000명의 아시아계 미국인에게 86,000 건 이상의 전화를 걸어 펜주 주민 “모두를 위한 운전면허증”에 대한 지지 여부를 물었습니다. 응답자의 79% 는 이민신분에 관계없이 모든 펜주 거주자들에게 운전면허증 취득 권리를 확대하는 것을 지지하였습니다.
