Our mission is to rescue Thoroughbreds from neglect or abuse and retire racing thoroughbreds that can no longer perform an equine career, providing them with a second chance at life. We aim to:

Rescue: Identify and intake Thoroughbreds in need, providing immediate care and rehabilitation.

Retire: Offer a safe and loving sanctuary where Thoroughbreds can live out their lives in comfort.

Educate: Raise awareness about the plight of retired racehorses and promote responsible ownership and care.

We are proud to announce the opening of a second location at Roderer Correctional Facility in La Grange, KY. Here we will place retirees in the minimum security facility, provide a safe forever home and educate. The inmates will be given the chance to enroll in the Second Chances Groom Elite Program, written and taught by Dr. Reid McClellan.

This six month class, allows the inmate to learn the anatomy, digestive system, hoof care, teeth care and grooming of a thoroughbred. There is book study along with hands on work, therefore allowing them to graduate with a groom elite certificate.

Race for Aftercare will help these inmates who have worked hard and achieved this level in finding employment.
