30 Years of Rhythm Visions: Art That Opens Doors

For 30 years, Rhythm Visions has created diverse opportunities for artists and communities. Help keep the Rhythm going!

Our Story

In June 1996, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Renita Martin, a gospel and blues musician, actress, and playwright from Terry, Mississippi, started with one simple belief: art changes lives, and opportunity should be shared. That belief became Rhythm Visions Production Company.

Thirty years later, we are still doing the work, now across DC, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, and Mississippi.

Our mission is to create and foster transformative opportunities for artists and communities through programs, partnerships, and professional development. Here is what that looks like:

Rhymez&Rhythmz, our open mic series, where poets, singers, comedians, dancers, visual artists, and musicians find a stage, an audience, and each other.
A multi-year partnership with American University that puts students to work on real creative and production projects, plus a national volunteer portal open to students from any university.
Meet The Artist YouTube Interview Series where local artists talk about their creative journey.
Rhythmz Studio at Covenant House of Greater Washington, DC, offers mixing and mastering services and training to youth experiencing homelessness.
Overcoming Through Art, a new documentary film premiering at our 30th Anniversary celebration.
Roots in Mississippi: Co-sponsors of the Emmy Award-winning talk show, “Late Night With Rita Brent”, produced concerts with blues artists Dexter Allen and Terrell Brinson, The Justice Playbook, created with Tougaloo College and Brown University students.

Thirty years is a milestone. It is also a starting line.

And we are building what comes next. RhythmWorks Creative Pathways Academy, our arts-based intergenerational workforce development program, launches to the public in Spring 2027. RhythmWorks will give artists the training, mentorship, and professional skills to build lasting creative careers.

The Ask

Donate today to create more stages for artists, more students learning by doing, and a strong launch for RhythmWorks

Our goal: $5,000 by November 7, 2026, the night we celebrate 30 years together. Every gift, at every level, will fund staff training and equipment purchases for RhythmWorks.

Come party with us on November 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time) at the Round House Theatre! We're celebrating 30 amazing years of Rhythm Visions Production Company, and you’re invited to join the fun.
