Our Mission

Every day in Washington, DC, wild animals are navigating a city built for people. Birds collide with glass buildings, baby animals are orphaned during construction, and wildlife is injured by cars, poisons, and human activity.

When that happens, there is one place they can go.

City Wildlife is the District’s only wildlife rehabilitation center, providing lifesaving medical care to 1,500–2,000 sick, injured, and orphaned animals each year with the goal of returning them to the wild where they belong.

With the help of licensed wildlife veterinarians, dedicated staff, and passionate volunteers, City Wildlife gives these animals a second chance.

But rescue and rehabilitation are only part of the mission.

City Wildlife also works to protect the future of wildlife in our city through education, community engagement, and innovative programs such as Lights Out DC and Duck Watch, which help reduce the risks that animals face in an urban environment.

The Annual Garden Party brings together friends, neighbors, and supporters who believe wildlife deserves a place in our city. Set in a beautiful garden setting, the evening celebrates the work City Wildlife does every day to rescue, rehabilitate, and protect the animals that share our urban environment.

But this event is more than a celebration; it is one of City Wildlife’s most important fundraisers of the year.

Because City Wildlife is a nonprofit, community support is what makes this work possible. Funds raised through the Garden Party help provide:
