Hi, we're the Maples!

Back in 2010, we were a homeschooling, military family of six who had just welcomed our fourth child, Archer. When Archer was six months old though, we began a devastating journey with a big unknown. After an excruciating year of testing Archer was diagnosed with a peroxisome biogenesis disorder. Peroxisomal disorders are rare, genetic conditions that cause deafness, blindness, global developmental delays, adrenal insufficiency, neurological issues, and feeding issues, and are almost always terminal in childhood. Receiving such a diagnosis and caring for a child with a rare disease is difficult, isolating, and overwhelming. Thankfully, we were able to lean on the GFPD to help connect us with other families and medical professionals navigating this rare disease.

We would have been lost without the GFPD community over the years, and want to support their important mission.

For 15 years, the GFPD has been connecting hundreds of patients, families, and caregivers worldwide who face the daily challenges of living with a peroxisomal disorder. The GFPD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity that supports families through annual conferences, online support groups, direct parent-to-parent mentoring programs, patient and physician educational programs, medical equipment exchanges, bereavement programs, and funding medical and scientific research.
