The Art Gala is a collaborative effort between the Hughston Foundation and the Harris County High School Work-based Learning Program. The Annual Gala is a unique community event that invites Georgia middle and high school students (5th–12th grades) to participate.

The program offers 6 STEAM Awards with varying dollar amounts based on placement from first to third place. The top three scores are for middle school-aged students (5th–8th grades), and the top three highest scores are for high school-aged students (9th–12th grades).

Art Gala Mission

The Hughston Foundation Art Gala for the Biologically Inclined was created to support the national STEAM initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math). The Hughston Foundation Art Gala helps students learn by integrating these principal areas. Biological and medical illustration, collectively known as scientific illustration, uses artwork as a visual communication tool solely to serve education. Illustrations of measured accuracy, conceptualized illustrations, and animations are created to enable communication between scientist and author, teacher and student, or physician and patient. Because they convey subtleties and eliminate language ambiguities, scientific illustrations are an important, often necessary, element of precise communication in scientific education.
