Our Story

Support Conservation in Orange County and Surrounding Areas

OC Habitats, is a grassroots nonprofit founded in 2017, with a mission is to protect and
preserve local ecosystems through education, restoration, outreach, and monitoring.

Education and Outreach: One of our primary focus areas is We offer hands-on science-based
education programs for students from second grade and up. This includes partnering with
schools in underserved communities to provide environmental education opportunities. We
also host booths at community events, lead guided nature hikes, speaker series and field trips.

Restoration: Our restoration work spans five sensitive habitat areas across Orange County and
surrounding areas. We work to improve the resiliency of our natural habitats by removing
invasive species and reintroducing native plants.

Monitoring: Critical species monitoring is an area where we are expanding our work. We're
also currently monitoring sea urchin populations in local tide pools to protect newly restored
kelp forests. Kelp forests are vital ecosystems to ensure the health local marine life. Our
monarch butterfly monitoring program is just starting and we are excited to help protect this
critical pollinator.

In 2025, your support helped us:

Engage 255 underserved students with hands-on Science Education
Reach more than 4,190 people through community-based events
Remove more than 17,00 pounds of invasive species from vulnerable habitats in the Huntington Beach Wetlands, Newport Bay Ecological Reserve, and Santiago Creek
Protect more than 162 nests of the endangered California Least Tern
