Jack was a gentle giant. He was kind, silly, and unsure of the world around him.

On New Year’s Eve, 2023, he was found in the middle of the street, skinny, limping, and filthy. Two strangers opened their car door and took him in. They nursed him back to health and spent the next nine months trying to find the right home for him.

During those months, Jack went everywhere. He strolled down Las Vegas Boulevard, explored Downtown Summerlin and Town Square and went to dozens of adoption events. He was great with people! Despite his kind nature towards people, he didn’t get along well with other large dogs. As a result of that, Jack was very difficult to place.

In early September, 2024, Jack ingested oleander leaves, a highly toxic plant common in the Las Vegas Valley. He spent the next few nights in an emergency veterinary hospital fighting for his life. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, he passed away Monday, September 9th, at 2:38 am.

In the wake of Jack's passing, his foster family and the close-knit community surrounding him rallied together. Through a GoFundMe campaign and The Jack of Hearts Session, they raised over $20,000, and the idea of the Jack of Hearts Foundation was born.

In late September of 2024, a remarkable group of magicians came together to support Jack’s family. This group included our ringleader David Williamson, along with Derek DelGaudio, Nick Diffatte, Jason England, Mac King, Chris Korn, Eric Mead, Michael Weber, R. Paul Wilson, Rachel Wax and Lance Burton. They organized an online magic lecture, showcasing their incredible talents and sharing their expertise with magic enthusiasts from around the world.

The event was a heartfelt effort to help Jack’s family cover their expenses. Through ticket sales and a subsequent auction of unique magic memorabilia and experiences, the event raised over $20,000. This generous contribution made a significant impact, providing much-needed financial relief to Jack’s family. Inspired by the success and the overwhelming support from the magic community, this event led to the formation of The Jack of Hearts Foundation, dedicated to supporting animal rescues nationwide.

Due to the overwhelming success and positive response, the lecture and auction are set to return in the fall of 2025 complete with an all-new lineup. The magic community is once again coming together to create an unforgettable event, filled with wonder and support for a great cause.
