Jack and Jill, founded in 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, is an 85-year-old organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development opportunities, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. Jack and Jill spans across seven geographic regions in the United States with 262 chapters in 39 States. The North Jersey Chapter is part of the mighty Eastern Region of Jack and Jill which is the largest of the seven regions comprised of 61 chapters. North Jersey is one of the oldest chapters, known for proving outstanding family enrichment for 75 years.

What Makes Us Different?

Jack and Jill by the numbers

As the preeminent African American family organization, our programming is for the entire family. We engage mothers, fathers and children who come from predominantly college educated (99%) households. The majority of our members are aged 40 to 49 years old (55%). Our members occupy space in the top 2% of African American households. 100% of the members have household incomes over $100k a year with a median income of $180k, and nearly a third of those have yearly incomes in excess of $250k. These figures far exceed the national averages for households and demonstrate significant buying power both in terms of strategic investments and purchases, and discretionary spending capabilities.

The Mighty Eastern Region

The Eastern Region covers eight states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Delaware and the District of Columbia. The Eastern Region began 86 years ago, currently with over 3,000 active mother members that are leaders

in their communities and industry representing more than 11,000 family members. In addition to creating and nurturing the next African American leaders through its programs, the heart and soul of everything we do is youth leadership and development, from our programming to our philanthropic giving and community service.

We Are Stewards of Our Communities

Community Service and Philanthropy

Each year the Eastern Region has a true impact on the organizations it partners with and the participants of those organizations. To ensure our children become true leaders, we emphasize Community Service and Philanthropy in our activities.

Community Service

In the 2024-2025 program year alone, the Eastern Region rendered and recorded over 40,000 hours of community service benefiting over 852,000 individuals in the Eastern Region’s underserved and underrepresented communities. We additionally raised over $113k in community service dollars and collected over 27,000 pounds of food.

Philanthropy

In addition to community service, the Eastern Region also raised $446k in funds for the JJOAF, which represents less than half of all money donated. Our Jack and Jill families donated well over $1m to 501(c)(3) organizations in 2023. The JJOAF, our 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm, holds the distinction of being the oldest Black-led philanthropic organization. The Foundation focuses on key areas such as housing insecurity, education, health and wellness, and the African American family that when done together, the Foundation believes, can bring about positive outcomes. These investments in programs and services create a strong foundation for children to thrive long-term in the U.S. Since 2020, our Eastern Region mother members raised and donated over $1.137m. Similarly, our teens did an outstanding job with their own fundraisers, to contribute $115k to our Foundation and provided an additional $385k to local 501(c)(3)s that our teens supported.
