Welcome to the 4th Annual Silent Auction, presented by the Southwest Dallas County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta! This event is a significant undertaking aligned with our International Awareness & Involvement Programmatic Thrust, designed to cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse contributions and challenges of people and cultures beyond our own.

Your participation in this auction goes beyond a delightful experience; it contributes to a meaningful cause. The proceeds generated will directly support the Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital in Thika, Kenya. At the heart of our cause is the recognition that nothing is more precious than the gift of life. The miracle of bringing new life into the world is often taken for granted, especially with the access to adequate prenatal and maternity care we enjoy in America. Sadly, such care is not universally experienced, particularly in our ancestral homeland of Africa.

In 1955, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recognized the critical health issues surrounding prenatal care and safe births in Africa. The sorority took action, laying the groundwork for the Thika Maternity Hospital in Kenya. This vision became a reality in the early 1960s when Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. made a significant donation to finance the construction of what is now known as Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital in Thika, Kenya. The hospital, first to open in Kenya after gaining independence, continues to be operated by the missionary sisters of the Holy Rosary.
