The BID was formed in 1986 to preserve, revitalize, and market the downtown business district. It is now one of the oldest and most effective downtown organizations in the State of New York.

Each year the BID holds the Light Up Geneva fundraiser to raise funding for the purchase and maintenance of holiday decorations for the downtown district. This fundraiser is the only source of income for the care and replacement of holiday lights, many of which remain up through the end of February.

The year's event takes place at the beautiful Dove Block event space located on the third floor. It will feature a live auction, a cash bar, and hors d'oeuvres in a fun and festive atmosphere. The live auction portion of the event will be announced by Carrie Hessney, 2026 Women’s International Auctioneer Champion.
