Our Story

The Arc of Laramie County was founded in 1954 — not by politicians or professionals, but by parents. Parents who refused to accept that their children didn't belong. Parents who believed that every person, regardless of ability, deserved a place in their community.

More than 70 years later, that belief still drives everything we do.

Today, The Arc of Laramie County serves over 220 members with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families right here in Cheyenne. We are a small but mighty organization — one staff member, a passionate board, and a community of people who show up for each other week after week.

We host weekly social programming where members build friendships, practice life skills, and simply get to have fun and be themselves. We advocate for inclusion in schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. We connect families to resources and make sure no one has to navigate the system alone.

Our programs aren't just fun — though they absolutely are fun. They build confidence. They build independence. They build belonging.

Events like Mardi Gras Gone Wrong are how we keep the lights on and the doors open. Every ticket purchased, every raffle entry, every bid at the auction goes directly back into the programming and advocacy that our members count on.
