A Tribute from Her Aunt Michelle, Her Mother Carol, and Their Entire Family

Some people leave footprints on our hearts that time can never erase. Nancy was one of those people. Although her life on earth ended far too soon, her light continues to shine through the lives she touched and the legacy we are determined to carry forward.

Nancy was only 39 years old when she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. She was a nonsmoker, a mother, a daughter, a niece, and someone whose life held so much promise. Her diagnosis challenged the assumptions many people have about lung cancer and reminded our family of a painful truth: lung cancer does not discriminate, and no one should have to face this disease without awareness, support, and hope.

On September 1, 2022, Nancy took her final breath. Her passing left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, especially her mother, Carol; her children; her aunt Michelle; and her entire family. The loss of Nancy was a pain words could never fully express, but even in our grief, we knew that her life, her name, and her story would continue to matter.

As her aunt, Michelle made a promise that Nancy’s name would never be forgotten. That promise became part of the heartbeat of Survivor Legacy, Inc.

Nancy’s Light is more than a campaign. It is a promise born out of love, strengthened by faith, and carried forward through purpose.

Nancy’s legacy lives on through her two children, who will always carry a part of their mother with them. It lives on through her mother, Carol, whose love for her daughter remains woven into the fabric of our family. It lives on through her aunt Michelle and every family member and loved one who continues to cherish her memory. Together, we carry forward the love she gave us and the impact her life continues to make.

Through Nancy’s Light: A Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign, we are transforming grief into purpose and remembrance into action. We are shining a light on lung cancer, encouraging conversations about early detection, promoting education and screening awareness, and extending hope to individuals and families navigating this difficult journey.

This campaign is not only about remembering Nancy. It is about reaching the person who may be overlooking a symptom, encouraging someone to speak with a healthcare professional about their risk, supporting a family searching for answers, and reminding those affected by cancer that they are not alone.

We honor Nancy and all those we have lost. We celebrate survivors, stand alongside those currently battling cancer, and recognize the caregivers and families who carry so much of this journey with them.

Our hope is that Nancy’s story will open hearts, inspire action, and help save lives. May her light reach far beyond our family and into communities where greater awareness, access to screening, and compassionate support are needed.

Nancy, you were taken from us far too soon, but your life was not without purpose, and your story will not end with your passing. Your children are part of your enduring legacy. Your mother, your aunt, and your entire family will continue to honor the beautiful life you lived. Through Survivor Legacy, your name will be spoken, your story will be shared, and your light will continue to reach others.
