The 2024 historic crossing by the D-Day Squadron will commemorate the invasion of Europe eighty years prior. Formation flights for WWII veterans, heads of state and air drops of 200 plus paratroopers are being coordinated. Whatever else is built into the mission profile, our one bidder (2 crew members) will be included in planning sessions, the Channel flight and post-mission celebrations. Once in a lifetime experience on a WWII veteran C-47/DC-3 N877MG. On June 2, 2024, fly with the D-Day Squadron to recreate the historic crossing from England to Normandy, France in honor of the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, D-Day. Itinerary (dates tentative)

England, June 1, 2024

Meet your crew in England (location TBD) where you will be briefed on the flight plan and logistics for the Channel crossing. Captain John Sessions will guide you throughout the flight. John’s flying resume includes decades of warbird airshow performance and three trans-Atlantic crossings in airplanes older than he is. His favorite missions involve Challenge Air co-pilots. The base operations for this mission are still being developed, however, nearby you should take the time to explore the Imperial War Museum (IWM) at Duxford Airfield. Walk the sacred grounds of this Battle of Britain airfield. Dates dependent, there would be opportunity to meet the other aircraft and crews of the D-Day Squadron.

England - Caen, France – Normandy, June 2, 2024

Start your day with a safety and flight briefing ahead of your journey. Prepare for the day and historic route taken 80 years ago. Board and get ready ahead of take-off and an opportunity to capture memories and photos. After arrival in France, explore the festivities and historic events of the day.

Cherbourg, France, June 3-7, 2024

Participate in events throughout Normandy or continue your journey throughout Europe. John will help you coordinate onward arrangements once the D-Day events taper. It is recommended you allow several days to visit Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, D-Day landmarks and museums throughout the Cotentin Peninsula.

Local accommodations and airfare to/from England/France are not included. The crew will assist with accommodations, staying at such historic Inns as the John Barleycorn. Duxford is approximately 60km north of London, for reference, yet the D-Day Squadron is also expected to base flying and static operations at North Weald.
