Neil Lent's Story

Nest has been life-changing for Neil and our family since we joined a little over 2 years ago. It gives Neil something to look forward to on a daily basis, enjoying engaging activities and socialization with peers who have become good buddies. Nest also provides an invaluable supportive and understanding community for parents and families who walk this journey with our loved ones. Once our young adults with complex medical and/or intellectual disabilities age out of high school, existing traditional programs don't adequately serve them because of the high level of personal care and medical support they need. Nest Academy RVA is meeting this unmet need. From Thriving Together classes filled with fun and interesting activities (e.g., 'DJ of the Day', music therapy, scavenger hunts, "veggie derby" [think Pinewood Derby, but with vegetables :-) ]) to Adaptive Adventures (pontoon boat rides, adaptive rock climbing, museum visits, adaptive gym class, bowling, visits to the State Fair, a local alpaca farm, etc.), Nest fills Neil's days with fellowship and fun, and my heart with gratitude :-)
