Advocates is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that was established in 1995 as a support group for parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Today, Advocates is overseen by a Board of Directors and is endorsed by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (NYS OPWDD), serving more than 1,100 children and adults with disabilities and their families.

Advocates offers a variety of resources, advancing best practices for supporting people with disabilities. Advocates differs from other providers due to the ratio of employees to the number of individuals they serve, allowing them to support people in their own communities with 1:1 staffing. Advocates also offers recreational programming, respite, community habilitation, family training, housing opportunities, and advocacy for people with disabilities.

Raising awareness and much-needed funding are so important to provide children and adults with disabilities equal access to a fulfilling life. Our efforts to enhance fundamental programming and service delivery rely on the generosity of our donors. Proceeds from our fundraising efforts, which include our online auctions, benefit children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
