From One Neighborhood Vision to Citywide Impact

Ten years ago, Groundwork Indy began with a simple idea: when young people are given meaningful opportunities and neighborhoods have access to green space, communities thrive.

What started as a small, neighborhood-focused effort has grown into a citywide movement. Over the past decade, Groundwork Indy has hired and trained hundreds of local youth in paid environmental jobs, expanded access to trails and green infrastructure, and partnered with residents to transform underutilized spaces into vibrant community assets.

Along the way, young people have become environmental leaders. Vacant lots have become gathering spaces. Trails have connected neighbors. And environmental justice has become central to how we build a stronger Indianapolis.

Today, Groundwork Indy stands rooted in community and rising into its next chapter — continuing to invest in youth, green space, and neighborhoods that deserve to thrive.
