On November 10th, 2024, The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center (TDMEC) will host its National Native Heritage Month Celebration, a vibrant event celebrating Native American culture through art, music, dance, and education.

The day will kick off with a Native-Themed Chalk Art Contest for Youth, encouraging young artists to express their creativity while learning about Native heritage. In addition to this, there will be performances by youth musicians from TDMEC, showcasing their talents and dedication to their craft.

Families can enjoy traditional frybread meals with various toppings, offered on a "pay what you can" basis, with proceeds supporting TDMEC’s educational programs. A dedicated Kids Crafts Area will be available, where children can engage in hands-on activities inspired by Native American traditions.

Cultural performances by Indigenous ACE and The Great Promise Dancers will captivate the audience, showcasing authentic Native American dance traditions. Additionally, a historical video about the Karankawa tribe, native to the Texas Gulf Coast, will be screened, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the region’s indigenous history.

A fundraising auction will feature unique items like Native-Themed Art Guitars and a water fountain by sculptor Douglas Walker, with all proceeds supporting TDMEC’s mission.
