We started in a small, makeshift, thatched school room in India back in 2007.

Milaan Foundation's story began with two undergrad students determined to solve the problem of school dropouts, especially among girls in their remote ancestral village. 17 years on, Milaan has grown to become one of the leading voices in building a movement of adolescent girls in deprived communities across India - fostering their leadership in advocating for gender equality.

Through our girl-centered and girl-led programs, we strive to nurture and amplify the voices of adolescent girls because we know that investing in adolescent girls can address intergenerational poverty and gender dynamics in families and the broader society.

By 2025, we are on a mission to empower 100,000 adolescent girls creating pathways for them to be healthy, educated, and safe.

At Milaan, we believe in the power of collaboration. Our name, ‘Milaan’, comes from the combination of two Hindi words: ‘Milan’, meaning coming together, and ‘Elaan’, meaning declaration, which collectively signifies the movement of diverse mission-driven people demanding an equal and just world.
