Teens With a Purpose (TWP) – The Youth Movement is a peer-led, creative youth development (CYD) organization where all young people are seen, heard, valued, and empowered. Founded in 1996 by Deirdre Love, the organization became a 501 c(3) organization in 2008. At TWP, our approach to youth development is grounded in creativity, culture, and community—placing young people at the center of their own learning and leadership journey.

Through CYD, we engage youth in hands-on arts experiences—spoken word, music production, creative writing, visual arts, and horticulture—that double as tools for personal expression, social-emotional growth, and community building. These programs are designed to increase positive influences in young people’s lives, promote academic success, health and wellness, and develop workforce and life skills.

We serve young people across Hampton Roads, with an intentional focus on disconnected youth: those aged 12–19 who are impacted by poverty, community violence, the justice system, or trauma. TWP creates a brave and creative space where young people can safely explore identity, heal, and grow.
