What is Soroptimist, you might ask? We are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best!

Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have over 25,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. There are five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.

Soroptimist International of Neosho Area (SINA) is one of the hundreds of clubs in North America working to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in our community. We primarily do that through our two core programs, Live Your Dream and Dream It, Be It.

Soroptimist's Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Live Your Dream Awards give women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. For the past three years, SINA has given out a cash award to 4 very deserving moms looking to further their education and change their families' future. With our community's support of our events, we hope to raise more money to grant to more deserving women in our community.

Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls gives girls the tools they need to achieve their education and career goals, empowering them to break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. SINA has partnered with the Neosho Alternative High School over the past year and have worked with the girls there to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. We want them to know they can overcome obstacles and get on a path that will help them realize their dreams.
