Since its inception in 1987, the Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago, Inc. (“BWLA”) has worked to advance its mission of identifying and addressing issues unique to black women lawyers, judges, and those in academia; improving the administration of justice by increasing the participation of black women and other minorities in the legal system; and advancing civil and human rights. The BWLA Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization and, as the charitable arm of BWLA, is committed to investing in the next generation of diverse legal leaders and civil rights champions. With the generosity and support of sponsors and others, we have awarded nearly $1,000,000 in scholarships to diverse college and law students in the last 35 years, including more than $65,000 to nearly 20 students this past bar year.
