Have you ever wondered what happens AFTER a woman or child is rescued from sex-trafficking? Who supports them? How do they recover? At the Spread OUR Love fundraising event, we plan to answer these questions, and so many more, while spreading awareness about our impactful organization that helps survivors of human trafficking and those struggling in squatters areas-- Pearls With Purpose. We will also be supporting and recognizing the magnanimous efforts of BELIEVE INTERNATIONAL, the nonprofit focused on attacking the ROOT cause of poverty with Values and Educational support for youth grades 9 through college graduation. This worthy organization (run entirely by volunteers) will be the beneficiary of 20% of the fundraising proceeds. Bid on our silent auction, shop fair-trade items, and enjoy light food and beverages, while you listen to heartwarming and educational stories from Wendy Bird (PWP) and other speakers who will teach you the HOW around human traffick awareness and protecting others. Entertainment provided by the Torch Family Singers, the incredibly talented group who sung their way through the Philippines! Special recognition for an individual who has dedicated over a decade to the education of squatters youth- helping hundreds rise through the ranks of high school and college via Believe International. Join us on Friday February 17th at 6pm in Riverton, Utah (or virtually, ANYWHERE!) to help Spread OUR Love! Light food and drink provided by VHE Catering. Virtual tickets include a live stream of the event and access to auction items.
Story
Pearls With Purpose, a social impact organization is dedicated to sustainable self-reliance for disadvantaged individuals in developing countries (primarily abused/abandoned women, sex trafficked survivors and those seeking vocational training).
We manage a lean operation through cost-effective processes which benefit the individuals in developing countries first. The creators of our products utilize artisan quality handicraft combined with locally sourced supplies such as (but not limited to) genuine Grade-A pearls, larimar, gemstones and high quality materials.
Each handcrafted product creates sustainable incomes/jobs and preserves cultural traditions. We create fair wages for our partners and do not personally profit; the artisans have fulfilling jobs and work in safe environments, which are oftentimes their homes so that they can take care of their families and have flexible schedules.
We created an online platform for artisans to showcase their beautiful products to a broader audience. Building this mutually beneficial relationship, customers have the opportunity to purchase unique, one-of-a-kind pieces from around the world, and artisans earn fair wages and generate a means to support their families.
Beginning in 2001, Wendy started Pearls With Purpose with a handful of women in the squatters area of Antipolo City, Philippines, Pearls With Purpose has since expanded into Bulacan, Thailand, India, Cambodia, Kenya, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
Hundreds of women have been given a hand up rather than a handout as they have become aware of their own self-reliance through micro-enterprise mentoring and artisan jewelry training. By aligning with like-minded nonprofits, such as Believe International, whose soul focus is attacking the root cause of poverty with values training and educational support, PWP has witnessed the ripple effect of generational change for deserving individuals and families.
In 2019, Pearls with Purpose became a program under the directors of Mentors International. A non-profit with 30 years of experience mentoring, providing business and personal development training, and micro-loans. This partnership has created opportunities to train and teach even more women while providing them with a product pipeline and micro-loans to truly grow their businesses.
We humbly realize it is the socially minded woman in America who creates sustainable lifelong change for these artisans.
By caring about where your accessories are made, what they are made from, and who actually benefits from the purchase, thousands of lives are improved and dramatically changed for the better. This is the beauty of a social-impact organization. When a product is purchased from Pearls With Purpose, over 64% is used to impact the life of another human being on the other side of the world.
The remaining 36% is used here in America for marketing and raising awareness.
