December 30, 2025: 💚 Walk with Us into 2026 ❤️

Thank you to everyone who contributed this month and this year! We are so grateful for your help in delivering on our mission of economic and racial justice with by, and for marginalized communities, particularly those directly impacted by the system of mass incarceration.

The year 2025 has been like no other in our lifetime. Among other things, we unexpectedly lost 60% of our budget due to a last-minute legislative cut to the budget of our partner, the Office of Civil Legal Aid. We had to make difficult decisions to reduce our staff and pull back from some of our work. We also were incredibly fortunate, because a few partners stepped in to help us recoup more than half of that $600,000! These partners are our lifesavers.

We haven't made up the whole deficit yet. Not by a long shot.

Heading into the New Year, we remain resolute that our legal empowerment movement, i.e., walking with people on their justice journey to liberation from mass incarceration, is viable, impactful, and sustainable.

Walk with us. Walk with our community. Your support matters now more than ever.

Imagine a world where we measure success by how safe people feel in our presence. That is the world we are creating with our peer-to-peer legal empowerment movement. Join us.

This week in our video, our Deputy Director Sophia Thomas shares where we are headed in the new year. Only after LFOs are paid off can a person ask the court to clear ("vacate") eligible convictions. We've helped so many people reduce their LFOs, and then they have been able to pay off the rest, that we now need to help them take the last step to freedom from mass incarceration.

December 17, 2025: 💚 Help Us Make the Constitution Real 🙏

As mid-December arrives, we are half-way through our end-of-year campaign and so grateful to those of you who donated, including our new monthly donors and those whose employers matched donations! Thank you! Your support helps us walk with people like Ebony on their journeys towards liberation.

This week, we are sharing our work removing barriers to people fully realizing their constitutional rights. Since 2023, we have been part of a coalition working to ensure that the hundreds of thousands of individuals convicted of simple drug possession between 1971 and 2021 are able to clear (vacate) those convictions and receive refunds of related expenses. This effort is due to the Washington State Supreme Court's State v. Blake decision.

There are still more than 205,000 cases eligible for vacates under this ruling. Each case belongs to a person, like Ebony, whom we can help with your support. ✨
