Downstage Arts invites you to attend the Fourth Annual Teen Cohort Showcase and Fundraiser to be held on May 20 at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago. This year’s event will be hosted by Hannah Kato and feature performances by this year’s Teen Cohort members.

The annual showcase provides the opportunity for cohort students to showcase their unique artistry and talents while presenting monologues and songs they've prepared for their families, friends, and community members. This year, 17 students will perform solo and group pieces. Each piece will stand as a testament to Downstage Arts' dedication to artistic development and celebrate the growth of each individual.

In 2020, Downstage Arts sprouted to radically improve the pathways created for teens to find their futures in the arts. Created by a community of artists dedicated to improving the lives of young people through the arts, The Teen Cohort is a free, scholarship based program specifically designed for high school juniors and seniors who wish to pursue the performing arts in college and beyond.

Students receive weekly individual and group coaching in acting, singing, acting technique, material selection guidance, self tape help, and mentorship. The Teen Cohort guides them every step of the way, from research through college decision day, both as artists and as college hopefuls.

We are proud to announce 100% of our seniors have been placed in at least one of their top five program choices. Attendance and donations support the future of The Teen Cohort, which will allow us to reach more youth, realize more dreams, and remove the barriers that exist for so many when looking towards a future in the arts.

This past year’s fundraising efforts have allowed us to add a dance instructor, financial aid consultant, and start after school programs. We can only imagine what this year’s support can bring to the next generation of performing artists.
