Howdy! We’re the Tarp Queens, 3 drag queens from Tucson, AZ who are working towards building an oasis in the desert for other art freaks: the Tarp Queen Trailer Park.

The objectives of the trailer park are to host events and festivals that embrace outsider art and reject censorship and assimilation; offer retreats and residencies for artists looking to think and work outside the box; provide temporary housing for fellow drag performers facing financial insecurity /homelessness; make a little spot in the desert into a haven for weird and wonderful artists to finally fit in.

Who are the Tarp Queens?

We are a trio of trans, disabled drag queens who are not afraid to get messy, political, sexy or creepy. Our name comes from our history of bringing our own tarps to shows to lay down on the stage so we can make a mess and clean it up. We have found few venues that can accommodate us and our full artistic visions, so we have been inspired to create a space where there are nearly zero limitations on what we can show in our performances.

Why a trailer park?

As working class weirdos, we wanted to embrace our roots and take pride in our resilience through poverty. The best way to do this, we decided, was to reclaim the idea of trailer trash and turn a trailer park into a place where we could connect with other artists and build community in our own way.

Our first wave of fundraising will be directed towards finding land and breaking ground on the trailer park.
