In 2010, after a devastating earthquake in Haiti, Rico established The Vertile Foundation. Named in honor of his late mother, he rebuilt his childhood home with the goal of providing a home for vulnerable children in the area. Since 2010, The Vertile Foundation has provided safe housing, medical care, and education to the children of Haiti.

About Haiti:

Haiti is in crisis with 60% of Haitian children living in extreme poverty
- Ongoing hurricanes have caused mass destruction for the country
- Since 2018, the country has been plagued by civil unrest
- Currently, gangs in Haiti are running the country causing even more unrest
Children born in Haiti have a 1 in 5 chance of being orphaned
80% of children will not make it past the 6th grade
39% of Haitians can't read making it even harder to get out of poverty
Haiti does not have a public school system making access to education challenging
Basic needs like clean water and nutrition are a constant struggle

This Year:

With money raised we will be able to:
- Build a kitchen and a common area at the children's home
- Build 4 additional classrooms to support 100 new students
- Increase use of our facility to offer after school access to neighborhood kids not attending school
- Provide vocational support to parents looking to obtain additional skills
- Expand restrooms and solar to scale to support increased capacity
