Wayfinders brings them together in wilderness and community — where healing happens, purpose awakens, and new paths emerge.

Waypoints is the network that makes this possible.

It began when Atz Kilcher founded Heroes Healing Homestead—a sanctuary where veterans could find renewal through nature, story, and community. Over time, he invited his sister Mossy Kilcher—a lifelong homesteader, naturalist, and musician—to join him in extending that work to young adults, in partnership with Open Circle.

Together, they are carrying forward something truly unique—perhaps one of a kind anywhere in the world. Two elder siblings, aged 78 and 83, whose lives have been shaped equally by challenge and joy, are now infusing their hard-earned wisdom into the hearts of a new generation. In honor of Mossy's granddaughter who was lost too young but who's love of nature, play and music lives on through this initiative

Through Wayfinders Alaska, veterans and young adults will journey across the Kilcher family lands and into the wilds of the Fox River Valley, guided by the healing power of nature that has sustained the Kilcher family for generations. From Mossy’s homestead down the beach toward the original Kilcher cabin, participants will walk the same paths their parents once did—where the land itself becomes teacher and witness. Each step of this journey extends beyond the homestead—to Heroes Healing Homestead and the wilderness beyond—a living classroom where resilience, creativity, and belonging are rediscovered.
