VIOLET: Rowing has become a huge part of my life and who I am. It has taught me discipline, resilience, and how to push through challenges alongside my teammates. Going to nationals means the chance to represent all the hard work, growth, and commitment my team and I have put in all season against the best crews in the country.

GWEN: I’ve loved rowing with VIRC these past three years and it’s taught me teamwork, commitment, and discipline whilst also being a source of strength and support. Going to Nationals this year is going to be an amazing experience that I hope will be an opportunity to grow and learn, both as a rower and a teammate.

Men’s U17 Double Sculls

Grayson I Alden

GRAYSON: After qualifying for Nationals twice before, this third trip feels even more special. Our double has so much potential, and we have been working together for the past two years to reach this point. I’m incredibly excited to compete at Nationals against some of the best young rowers in the country.

ALDEN: When I started rowing three years ago I did not realize how much this sport would become part of my life. This is my third time traveling to Sarasota for US Youth Nationals and my first as a U17 double after two years in a coxed quad. Traveling with my team mates to compete on such a high level is an important milestone in my journey as a rower. I am very excited to prove my ability once again at a higher level competition.

KIRAN: Rowing has taught me determination, confidence, discipline, and the value of teamwork. I’m super excited to be rowing the single this year as it is such a unique opportunity which challenges me to push myself further than I would have before. I’m so grateful for the chance to row at nationals this year and I am ready to give it my all!

RUDY: Rowing is about being part of a community that you support and are supported by to push your own limits.

EMMETT: Rowing to me means having drive and commitment to overcome obstacles and stay focused on your boat and self over others. Rowing is about being there for your community to address problems and striving to be a helpful member of this island everyday.

UTAH: Rowing is the closest thing to a home away from home that I’ve ever had. The boathouse feels so familiar to me now that even the smells there have become some of my favorite smells. Qualifying for Nationals feels like all of the hard work finally paid off.

LUKAS: Rowing has been a part of my life since I was little and has shaped many of my childhood experiences. I love rowing because it allows me to enjoy the water we are so lucky to live near while also challenging me to grow stronger and improve my fitness.

ATALIE: To me, being on the crew team means having this family of amazing, strong, and reliable friends/siblings that you can count on if you need help with crew related stuff or other stuff. There is always someone there who will listen and help you. It means so much to me to get the opportunity to go to Florida to compete at such a young age. Florida here we come!
