The Vinguard started in 2013 as a natural wine blog. Louie Busch, its founder, had spent decades working in the wine industry and saw something worth paying attention to in the emerging natural wine movement. They also saw something familiar and troubling: the same misogyny and hypocrisy they'd witnessed in conventional wine had followed the movement in.

Louie started writing about it. Speaking out about it. And eventually, organizing around it.

WINeFare launched in 2018 as the first wine tasting event to feature womxn in the natural wine world. Hundreds of consumers and wine professionals show up every year. The Wine Industry Equity Pledge followed in 2019, now signed by more than 75 wine businesses and professionals.

The Vinguard has been doing this work for over a decade, supported by a Board of Directors rooted in both wine and social justice. Your bids help keep it going.
