Wellness in Action is doing all we can to support mental health and offer affordable services to our community who live and work in Big Sky. It is truly because of you that we can continue to prioritize this important work.

The resort town community of Big Sky experiences increased rates of depression, anxiety, suicide, substance abuse, and other mental health issues due to lack of affordable housing, cost of living, economic pressure associated with seasonal employment, and limited access to and affordability of health services (Buz Davis community study, 2020). Wellness In Action (WIA) exists to improve the wellbeing of this community exasperated by these challenges.

WIA’s Affordable Counseling Program (ACP) is a comprehensive counseling and direct-service platform that addresses identified mental health needs, affordability, and access to care. It is the only program of its kind in Big Sky to provide a range of lower-cost counseling options from in-person to telehealth to Spanish-speaking; specialized counseling programs for ski patrol and first responders, as well as educators in the community; two Community Health Workers who offer individualized care and resource referrals at no cost; suicide prevention trainings and education opportunities, and youth scholarships to support families challenged by the burden of the cost of living in Big Sky.

We are so appreciative of this community to support the work and mission of WIA. For 20 years, WIA has pioneered the spirit of community caring about community. This work began as grassroots initiatives led by caring community members to improve Big Sky’s way of life, supporting general health initiatives and scholarship opportunities to bridge the gap for youth and their families. We could not do the work we do today without the vibrant history and commitment of this community to ensure people who live here can thrive and live well.
