York Land Trust’s responsibility to steward its land has grown over the years as we have been successful in placing more land in conservation and increasing compatible recreation. Having more land to care for is a blessing we regard highly and an obligation we take seriously. We manage our land to protect its ecological values which includes habitat restoration, sustainable forestry, natural resource protection, invasive plant species mitigation, and nurturing native plants. Being a good steward not only means dutifully caring for the land’s natural resources and ecological values, but also engaging the next generation of stewards to carry on this vital work.

York Land Trust provides public access to connect the community to these conserved lands. We believe you protect what you love and if we create opportunities to interact with these natural areas, people will be more inclined to protect them. Protection can look like supporting a local land trust by becoming a donor, volunteering, attending programs and events, or being an ambassador. YLT has 7 public access preserves that total more than 1,400 acres of land and consist of nearly 15 miles of trails available for hiking, mountain biking, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, and nature study. These trails span diverse topography, ranging from shrubby wetlands, to rocky outcroppings, to rolling meadows, and to dense forests. Our preserves feature parking lots with informational kiosks at the trailheads and crafted bridges, boardwalks, and benches throughout to help ensure a positive visitor experience.
