What is the Hearts TRC Equestrian Games?

The Hearts TRC Equestrian Games is our favorite day of the year!  We love seeing all our riders come together and display the skills they have been working so hard on all year.  We always describe show day as a day of smiles, because everywhere you look you will see big smiles!  There will be smiles from participants as they are awarded their ribbons, smiles form families as they see the new skills and confidence their riders have gained, smiles from volunteers as they see the riders they work with week in and week out succeed, and smiles from the staff as we see the magic our hours in the ring with the horses have created.  

How does the Hearts TRC Equestrian Games work?

All the participants in the games compete in an equitation and a trail class.  Each class is made up of 3-6 riders.  In equitation, riders demonstrate their skills like walking, trotting, halting, steering, and 2 point position, as well as maintaining the proper position while riding. In the trail class, the riders demonstrate how they use those skills to guide their horse through obstacles.  At the end of each class the riders are awarded ribbons and the judge talks to each rider about their ride.  The riders love getting the chance to show off what they have been working on and to share their time at the barn with their loved ones.  

Why is the Hearts TRC Equestrian Games important?

The Equestrian Games is Hearts TRC's biggest fundraiser.  Our riders compete to see who can raise the most money for our program.  The rider who raises the most wins a month of free lessons!  2nd and third place prizes are also awarded.  Hearts TRC relies on these donations to keep our riders costs as low as possible as well as to care for our horses and keep them  in top condition so that they can continue to work as therapy animals.  Please help support our riders and horses by making a contribution to this amazing event.

It is this formula that Hearts TRC uses to assist riders who face the challenges of autism and physical and developmental disabilities and who are veterans returning home from service to our country. Our equine assisted riding program addresses the physical and emotional needs of our clients through PATH certified equine activities. In an effort to make these activities affordable to our riders, their monthly cost of lessons only covers about 70% of the monthly program operating expenses. As such, we rely on outside support to maintain and grow current operations, and to help fund operating costs not covered by lessons. It is through donations from generous supporters like you that allow Hearts to continue to serve our clients and serve our community. “Our hoof beats are many, but our hearts are one.”
