This March, Denver North High School theater program will take on one of Broadway’s most powerful recent musicals — and they’re doing it with the full weight of community support behind them.

From March 19–21, North High School’s (Northside Black Masque Theatre Co.) will present Suffs, the Tony Award–winning musical about the young activists who fought for women’s suffrage. North is one of just twelve schools nationwide selected to produce Suffs: The Young Are at the Gate, a distinction awarded by the Educational Theatre Foundation and Musical Theatre International.

What makes this production especially newsworthy is that it is entirely community-funded. Every costume, set piece, and technical element is made possible through donations and fundraising.

At a time when arts education is increasingly underfunded, these Denver public school students are telling a story about civic engagement, voting rights, and youth activism — themes that resonate deeply today. This production reflects what is possible when a community invests in its young people and their voices.

To truly upll this off, the Northside Black Masque Theater Co. is hosting an incredible fundraiser dance party on February 21st, from 7-10pm at the Elks Lodge. The evening will feature a super-fun DJ, sneak-preview performances from the cast of SUFFS, and a thoughtfully curated silent auction. It's a chance to gather, celebrate, and invest directly in these students and their work--a joyful night of community building in service of a powerful cause.
