Our Story

Securing a Shared Home for Hope, Service, and Kindness

For decades, St. Thomas/Holy Spirit Church has been more than a place of worship —
it’s been a gathering place for neighbors, a support system for families, and a source of care for those in need across South St. Louis County.

We’re raising $40,000 to improve the space we now fully own so it can serve people even better — and help us do more for others each year.

Every week, our building hosts programs that strengthen our community:

Seniors staying active and connected through SAJE Senior Ministry
Neighbors receiving care through Christian Community Home Care
Families finding support through food and emergency outreach
Local groups meeting, learning, and serving together
And the wider community participating in events like Ashes to Go

This is not just our building.
It’s a shared home for the entire community.

Every $15/month (or $180/year) helps expand what happens in this shared space — and includes a Kindness Matters T-shirt or Coffee mug as a visible reminder that kindness truly is a Superpower. See details in the FAQs below.

Why We’re Asking for Your Help

We are launching a grassroots effort to improve the space our community depends on.

By doing this, we will free up resources each year — allowing us to do more for others through:

expanded outreach
more senior programming
youth and family support
educational events, forums and discussion groups on topics important to you

Your gift helps cover the cost of improvements to our space which will make it a place that better supports outreach, freeing more of our resources to serve others and expand the care we offer: community outreach, senior support, youth programming, emergency assistance, and community-led kindness initiatives.

2. Why is helping with the cost of improving our space so important?

Because it frees real money — every year — that can be used for programs rather than space improvement debt.
This helps transform cost of improving our building into a fully unlocked resource for the community, and grow our community Kindness Matters movement.

3. What is the “Kindness Matters” movement?

It’s our effort to spark more kindness in South County — not just “being nice,” but kindness as strength, courage, compassion, and love with a backbone.

The movement includes expanded outreach, community ideas, and the symbolic Kindness Matters artwork shared on our thank-you T-shirts and mugs.

4. What do I receive if I give $15 per month (or the annual equivalent)? How do T-shirts and Coffee Mugs work?

You become a Kindness Leader — someone helping shape the culture of our community.

As a thank-you, you’ll receive a Kindness Matters T-shirt or Mug featuring vibrant, sun-inspired artwork representing kindness as a radiant force for good. See the example below. You can receive up to two t-shirts, one for $15/mo (or annual equivalent), or two for $30/month (or annual equivalent) donation. You can receive an additional two mugs, one for $45/mo (or annual equivalent), or two mugs for $60/mo (or annual equivalent) donation. You will receive an additional one t-shirt or mug (your choice) for every additional $15/mo (or annual equivalent) greater than $60/mo.

Example:

$15/mo or $180 (annual equivalent) = 1 t-shirt

$30/mo or $360 (annual equivalent) = 2 t-shirts

$45/mo or $540 (annual equivalent) = 2 t-shirts and 1 mug

$60/mo or $720 (annual equivalent) = 2 t-shirts and 2 mugs

$75/mo or $900 (annual equivalent) = 2 t-shirts, 2 mugs and an additional t-shirt or mug.

You will be able to select your size and quantity of t-shirts, or quantity of mugs after donating.

5. Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. St. Thomas/Holy Spirit Church is a registered nonprofit, and you will automatically receive a receipt from GiveButter for your records.

6. What if I can’t give at all?

You are still part of this movement.

Your ideas, encouragement, and belief that Kindness Matters are just as valuable.

Delivery

We will cover the delivery costs on all domestic shipping. Unfortunately, due to the high costs of shipping internationally, we can not deliver t-shirts and mugs internationally.
