The Catskill Symphony Orchestra concludes its season with a fundraising celebration of America's most beloved composer-pianist, George Gershwin, whose unique musical language bridged the worlds of classical concert halls and jazz clubs. This special evening will feature Gershwin's most iconic orchestral works, showcasing his revolutionary fusion of European symphonic traditions with distinctly American jazz rhythms, blues harmonies, and Broadway melodies.

The program promises to include such beloved masterpieces as "Rhapsody in Blue" with its famous opening clarinet glissando, "An American in Paris" with its evocative taxi horns, and selections from Gershwin's groundbreaking opera "Porgy and Bess." The full orchestra, expanded to capture every nuance of Gershwin's rich orchestrations, will bring to life the composer's unique palette of sound that could only have emerged from America's cultural melting pot.

The annual fundraiser concert not only celebrates Gershwin's enduring legacy but also supports the continued vitality of the Catskill Symphony Orchestra, ensuring that future seasons will continue to bring great music to the community.
