Camp Diabetes is an adult weekend in Montana for people living with Type 1 diabetes.

It was created by two people who met at diabetes camp as kids. Both were diagnosed at a young age, and camp became the one place where living with Type 1 didn’t feel like something that set them apart. It was just understood.

They returned year after year. What stayed with them wasn’t just the setting, but the feeling. Time slowed down. Conversations felt easier. Being around other people with the same lived experience created a kind of ease that’s hard to find elsewhere.

As adults, that kind of space is hard to find. Most people move through their day-to-day lives as the only one in the room managing this, explaining it when necessary, and carrying it quietly the rest of the time.

Camp Diabetes came from a simple question: what would it look like to create that kind of environment again, but for adults?

The weekend is intentionally simple. A few days in Montana. Time outside. Unstructured space. A group of people who all understand what living with Type 1 actually feels like, without needing it to be explained.

For those who grew up going to camp, it may feel familiar. For those who didn’t, it offers a version of that same experience.

The goal is not to replicate childhood, but to create space for that same sense of ease and connection to exist again, even briefly.
