The ✨Magic✨ of Summer Camp

The overnight summer camp experience is filled with new friends, a bit of adventure, unique challenges, and tons of s'mores. Research shows that youth who attend summer camp return home with increased independence, self confidence, social awareness, an affinity for nature, and appreciation for being present. Furthermore, studies show that high-quality summer camp experiences result in better academic experiences the following year.

While we understand the immense benefits and positive outcomes of summer camp and time in the outdoors, only 4% of America’s summer campers identify as Black.

For the past 3 years, Young Legacies, founded by twin sisters Alex and Angelica Young, has provided a unique overnight summer camp experience for Black youth called Camp Legacy. At Camp Legacy, campers explore the great outdoors, learn archery, work as a team through ropes courses, make friendship bracelets, play some old school childhood games like freeze tag and tug-o-war, and spend each evening around a glowing campfire indulging in all -you-can-eat s'mores.

We're entering our 4th season of Camp Legacy and this year we're increasing our time and activities! Campers will spend 4 days and 3 nights just being a kid and creating lifelong memories in an inclusive space.
