ALL ABOARD – Support the North Platte Canteen Expansion!

In 1941 Rae Wilson was inspired to start the North Platte Canteen. She had no idea it would impact the lives of millions of people in the United States and around the world. The history of that legacy is preserved at the Lincoln County Historical Museum where we are dedicated to bringing this story and its values of patriotism, service, and sacrifice to the public. That is why the museum is planning the construction of an approximately 6,600 square feet addition to the museum’s main building. It will house exhibits and a theatre that tell the story of the North Platte Canteen, the involvement of rural America in World War II through the lens of local people, places, & events, and provide space for humanities programming.

Project Phases/Costs

Phase 1: Construction of the North Platte Canteen Addition Estimated cost: $1.75-$2 million

Phase 2: Construction and installation of exhibits Estimated cost: $500,000-$750,000

Phase 3: Endowment for future support of the Canteen expansion and Lincoln County Historical Museum Goal: $3.5 million Total Project Cost: $6 million ($1 per soldier who went through the Canteen)
