My name is Carolyn Akinyi Olang-Onyango. I am 55 years old, a community mobilizer, trainer, human rights activist, and permaculture trainer living in Rongo, Kenya.

Since April 2022, my main work has been building the SheGenerators Perma Hub — a women-led movement that empowers mothers and families to grow kitchen gardens and food forests, so we can overcome food insecurity and adapt to a changing climate.

Today, I’m raising funds for the next step: building a permanent home for the Hub on my quarter-acre piece of land in Rairi village, Rongo.

Why this Hub matters

In many parts of Africa, women carry the responsibility of feeding families — yet face barriers like limited land ownership, lack of funding, and heavy family responsibilities. Too often, women are also trapped in difficult situations because they have no safe place to go.

This Hub will be a shared multi-purpose facility for:

🌱 A permaculture training and demonstration site (kitchen gardens + food forests)

👩‍👧‍👦 A community center for women, youth, and children

🧵 A skills and income hub (washable pads, weaving, knitting, hand sewing)

📚 A resource space (library, indoor learning games like chess & Scrabble)

⚽ A youth program center (football & netball to reduce teen pregnancy and drug abuse)

🛟 A safe space and shelter for women escaping gender-based violence (GBV)

🔥♨️ A climate-smart learning hub (including fireless cooking such as solar ovens)

What we are doing now

Right now, I am working with an informal network of women who want to improve their lives through regeneration and skill-building. Through SheGenerators, we are training women to grow food even in small spaces — and building confidence, community, and resilience.

These trainings are practical and hands-on. Women learn together, support one another, and apply what they learn directly in their homes and communities.

But to grow this impact and host programs consistently, we now need a real physical home for the SheGenerators Perma Hub.

What your donation will build

Your support helps us establish the basic foundation of the SheGenerators Perma Hub so trainings and programs can happen consistently in one place — and so women in crisis can be supported with dignity.

Even small gifts help:

$10 helps buy seedlings, sacks/containers, or training materials

$25 helps with pad-making materials (to fight period poverty)

$50–$100 helps move the Hub closer to having a usable training space

$250+ helps with key building materials and construction milestones

BUDGET PLAN (Phase 1)

Phase 1 Priority: Make the Hub usable
Simple multi-purpose structure (training hall space)
Simple sleeping area (for visiting trainees and short-term emergency safe space)
Basic water storage and access
Demo garden setup (kitchen garden and starter food forest)
Chairs, benches, learning materials, and storage
First round of trainings hosted on-site

What success looks like (Impact)

When the Hub is functioning, we will be able to:

Train more women to grow nutritious food at home
Expand kitchen gardens and food forests to reduce hunger
Host youth sports and mentorship programs that reduce risk behaviors
Provide safe learning activities, reading culture, and skills training
Offer a safe place for women facing GBV to breathe, plan, and rebuild
