With your donations you can help us create this peaceful environment not only for our own meditative sake, but also saving cats from local euthanize lists and shelters + giving them a facility they can thrive in before finding their forever homes.

MY STORY

This story starts about 8 years ago when my mother & I would save kittens on euthanatize lists while trying to find them homes. Bottle feeding, peeing & pooping them, waking up every 2 hours to feed.. these moments are some that I will cherish forever with my mom, seeing her beautiful soul light up when we would save them and find their furever homes. <3

After my mom passed away in 2019 due to cancer; our family decided to continue her legacy by saving as many animals as we can in her honor- and this is where we are today.

Who am I?

I am Britney Ortiz, founder of Cats & Crystals Cat Cafe. Born and raised in California, recently moved to San Diego a little over a year ago. Being a foster for different local rescues, I see first hand how desperate we are to help these little guys from being put to sleep at shelters, getting them off the streets, TNR, and finding them the purrrfect furever homes. I have been vegetarian for 10+ years & am a huge advocate for animal rights along with human rights.

I am passionate about helping our city while not only saving kittens, but us humans too. Practicing thoughtfulness, kindness, and compassion towards animals and each other. After my mother passed away i was in a very dark place. Long story short, my cats saved my life. I knew i had a mission in this life-time and they (along with my wonderful family) were my support system to get back on my feet and keep rescuing 🐾 because sometimes that extra love and support an animal can give you- might just save you from the darkest times.

With this, I also learned to practice meditation; understanding frequencies and how they can help the body, & learning more about crystals and the power they have to heal and guide us. We are the best people to make this cat cafe happen, we are passionate, dedicated, and do what it takes to make this a reality.

Risks and challenges

1. Zoning We have a good idea where the Cats & Crystals Cafe will be, but we haven't found the right space yet for our unique needs. We are looking everyday, so we could find a location during the Kickstarter, check for updates!

2. Health Department Review We are working with the Health Department to ensure compliance with Health Code. We will need to submit our business plan to the zoning board. This process should not take long, but could be a potential challenge.
