For more than four decades, the CBA Edward J. Lewis II Lawyers in the Classroom, utilizing the Edward J. Lewis II Constitutional Law Curriculum, has brought attorney volunteers into 2nd-8th grade classrooms to help students better understand the U.S. Constitution, the legal system, and law-related careers. Launched in the late 1980’s, the program was significantly expanded under the late Edward J. Lewis II, a dedicated child advocate and partner at Jenner & Block. By the early 1990s, his efforts had grown the program to include more than 100 participating attorneys. Today, the program engages over 600 participating attorneys, serving more than 60 schools across the Chicagoland area and reaching over 5,000 students each year.
Lawyers in the Classroom is proud to partner with a wide network of schools, educators, and legal professionals—and relies on private donations to continue making a meaningful impact on youth across the region.
Currently, the program operates in schools from August through June, utilizing a thoughtfully co-designed curriculum and led by Tiffani M. Watson, M.Ed., Managing Director, who is also a seasoned professional educator.
