Our Community Library Needs Your Help

Our mission is simple: to provide a safe, welcoming place where our community can learn, connect, and grow through free access to books, technology, and educational programs.

For over 20 years, our library has been the heart of our town, serving around 200 residents. It is home to our island’s only Children’s Literacy Program, where local students have written and published three books—including one award-winning title now shared across Alaska and even in Washington, D.C. We also host elections, support job training, and provide essential access to communication and services.

However, our current building—a 60-year-old former float house—has reached the end of its life. Despite repair efforts, it is no longer safe due to structural damage and infestation. We can no longer rely on it to serve our community.

The good news: our city has donated land for a new library and will continue to cover utilities. What we need now is community support to help make this vision a reality.

Our goal is to raise $1.2 million through grants and donations to build a new, safe, and modern library—a place where our children can learn, our families can gather, and our community can stay connected.

This library has always been built by the community, for the community. With your help, we can ensure it continues to serve future generations.
