Immigrant communities have always existed within a solidarity economy. It’s time for a women run, immigrant run, transnational movement-aligned Solidarity Economy Headquarters.

El Centro Cooperativo de Desarrollo y Solidaridad (CCDS) has secured a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase an iconic building in the heart of a quickly gentrifying historically immigrant neighborhood, through a rapid response capital campaign. CCDS is currently in negotiations for a lease-to-own contract at 59 Meridian, in the center of East Boston, as the home of CCDS’ Solidarity Economy Headquarters.

Many of our cooperatives are ready to open their doors, but prices in the neighborhood to rent space are untenable for our community. Owning 59 Meridian will allow us to provide affordable space for our ecosystem of immigrant-owned cooperatives, a base from which to build the solidarity economy movement in our neighborhood, and a permanent home in East Boston for our immigrant communities.

We are calling on allied donors to stand with us by making donations and pledges by February 15th. Filling the remaining $2.8M acquisition gap will allow CCDS to acquire 59 Meridian.

We are not going anywhere. We are reclaiming our neighborhood and building a just economic and social alternative for our community.

CCDS an immigrant-founded and led organization building an ecosystem of immigrant-owned worker cooperatives in East Boston. CCDS was founded in 2016 after a group of Latino immigrant residents came together to discuss economic alternatives for their community in the face of the rapid gentrification and displacement from their neighborhood. Drawing on their collective experience of cooperativism in their home countries, they launched CCDS. Today, CCDS has seven cooperatives in its ecosystem ranging across sectors, from childcare, eldercare and cleaning, to catering, interpretation, sewing and handyman service. Together, these cooperatives are a part of a community united by values of mutual aid and solidarity.
