Our art program provides individuals with behavioral health needs meaningful opportunities to explore and express hope through creativity. Through painting, drawing, and other forms of visual art, participants can reflect on their experiences, express emotions that may be difficult to put into words, build confidence, develop coping skills, and connect with others in a supportive and therapeutic environment. Art can offer a way to recognize progress, imagine possibilities, and give form to the hope that is often an important part of recovery. The program is enhanced through our partnership with the Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project, led by artist and educator Jimmy Reynolds. With extensive experience working with individuals with diverse learning needs, Jimmy brings an inclusive, hands-on approach that encourages creativity, personal growth, and continued engagement in the arts.

Each year, the program culminates in our annual art show. The show gives participants an opportunity to share their artwork and their individual expressions of hope with the broader community. Every piece reflects a different perspective, experience, or journey, helping demonstrate that hope can look different for everyone. By celebrating participants’ creativity and accomplishments, The art show builds confidence, strengthens community connection, and helps reduce stigma surrounding mental health.

While many of our behavioral health services are supported through traditional reimbursement, the art program is sustained largely through grants, donations, sponsorships, and community support. These funds directly support instruction, art materials, ongoing programming, and the annual art show. Community support helps ensure that participants continue to have a space to create, connect, grow, and discover what hope can mean in their own lives.
