About Mara Rescue
For more than 20 years, MARA Rescue has provided sanctuary, rehabilitation, and lifelong care to animals who have been neglected, mistreated, abandoned, or simply had nowhere else to go. While horses are at the heart of the rescue, MARA is also home to goats, bunnies, pigs, birds, peacocks, a tortoise, and other animals—each with their own story and their own needs.

MARA’s mission is to provide every animal with a safe, loving forever home and the highest quality of care throughout their lives. Animals receive nutritious food, veterinary care, rehabilitation, enrichment, and specialized support as needed.

Mara Rescue receives no government funding and relies on donations, sponsors, and volunteers to continue its work. Horses receive premium organic feed, veterinary care, and specialized support as needed.

Founded by Megan Brown, whose passion for horse rescue began as a teenager after saving an abused Arabian stallion destined for slaughter, Mara Rescue has become a place of hope and second chances for horses in need. Every donation directly supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of the horses who call Mara Rescue home.

Our Impact So Far

Every horse who comes to MARA Rescue has a story — and every story is made possible by people who believe these animals deserve a second chance.

For more than 20 years, the support of our community has allowed MARA to rescue and care for more than 50 horses and other farm animals, giving them the time, patience, rehabilitation, and love they need to heal and thrive.

Here are just a few of their stories:

🐴 Hapa was rescued from a feedlot after suffering abuse and injuries as a jumping pony. After years of physical and behavioral rehabilitation, Hapa found her confidence again. Today, she is a beloved lesson pony who even has ribbons to her name!

🐴 Lucia arrived at MARA in 2020 after experiencing neglect that left her with significant health challenges. With dedicated care, nutrition, and rehabilitation, Lucia has transformed into a healthy, playful young mare who is now flourishing in her training under saddle.

🐴 Cinco — the biggest horse on the ranch, and one of our most special stories. Cinco was born to a rescued mare on Cinco de Mayo, which is how he got his name!

Recently, Cinco’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with spinal ataxia. While his veterinarian recommended euthanasia, MARA Rescue isn’t ready to give up on him. We are committed to giving Cinco every opportunity possible and are pursuing additional, costly diagnostic testing to determine whether he may be a candidate for surgery or another treatment option.

If surgery isn’t possible, Cinco will remain a beloved member of the MARA family. We will continue to give him the best quality of life we can — enjoying trail walks when he’s able, solo runs and playtime in the arena, sunshine, companionship, and, of course, all the food he can eat!

💫These horses don't move on from Mara Rescue — they stay for life. Every donation helps make sure that life is a good one.

There’s More Than One Way to Make a Difference

While the horses are at the heart of MARA Rescue, they’re not our only residents. Our bunnies, goats, birds, and other animals each have their own personalities, needs, and stories—and they all depend on us for lifelong care.

🐰 Bunnies
Our bunnies have a little more freedom than your typical rabbit! Rather than living in cages, they’re able to roam, explore, and dig alongside their friends in our rabbit colony.

🐐 Goats
Duke and Batman bring plenty of personality to the ranch! After being neglected and facing an uncertain future at a kill auction, they were rescued and given a safe, loving home at MARA. Today, they’re happy, playful members of the ranch family.

🦜 Birds
Our feathered residents have individual needs and personalities, too. MARA is also home to a beautiful pair of peacocks—a male and female who have become part of the ranch family. Their striking presence and unique personalities make them a favorite among visitors

🐢 Tortoise
Lucky was found on the side of the road with a severely cracked shell but given a second chance at MARA. After receiving the care she needed—including having her shell carefully repaired—she made a remarkable recovery and now enjoys a safe, happy life at the ranch.

🐷 Pigs
Ramoncito and Rootie our our two pigs are happy residents of the MARA family, bringing plenty of personality and charm to the ranch. They enjoy having space to explore, root, and simply be pigs!

Fundraising Goal
Our goal is to raise $15,000 for Mara Rescue through art sales, raffle participation, and community support.

How We Are Giving Back
10% of all artwork sales made during the event will be donated directly to Mara Rescue, along with 100% of all raffle proceeds. Every ticket purchased and every artwork collected helps provide food, shelter, veterinary care, and lifelong support for the horses at Mara Rescue.

Raffle tickets may be purchased when you RSVP through Eventbrite or at the event. Can’t make it to the event? You can still participate and support MARA by purchasing raffle tickets here.

Admission to the event is free, while raffle ticket sales help us raise critical funds to support the horses and animals. With an incredible collection of donated prizes, there’s a chance to win something special while making a meaningful difference for the animals who depend on MARA.
