Story
During this time of sheltering in place, it's more important than ever for young people to have positive outlets to move their bodies, connect with peers, and explore their communities - all from six feet apart.
While our overnight adventures are on hold due to Covid, the California Field School is responding to the pandemic by launching a bike library at Life Academy, an Oakland Unified public school located in East Oakland. Access to a bike can mean the difference between sitting inside all day and seeing more of the beautiful Bay Area while exercising in the sunshine. Students at Life Academy will be able to check out a bicycle, helmet, and lock after attending an online safety training.
Your support will help us maintain the bike library fleet and ensure that each student has a high-quality helmet and u-lock.
The California Field School is also organizing monthly youth rides exploring environmental justice close to home and continuing efforts to get young women and gender non-conforming young people on bikes.
