Sometimes the hardest part of childhood cancer isn't just the treatment—it's everything a family has to give up along the way.

We know an incredibly kind mother who left behind her home, career, possessions, family, and friends so her young son could receive lifesaving cancer treatment here in Ohio. This is his second battle with cancer, and while he is thankfully in maintenance, that still means daily chemotherapy and ongoing medical care.

For two years, this family of three has stayed in hospital rooms and nonprofit housing. Halle's Homes has given them a safe place to rest during active treatment. Yet, now that the young boy is in maintenance, they are securing housing of their own.

Mom has worked tirelessly to pay the first few months' rent of a place outside of the city. Yet, when we recently visited, our hearts broke.

Their apartment is almost completely empty: an air mattress served as a bed. A towel hung over the window as curtain. There was little else.

No parent should have to choose between caring for their child with cancer and having the basic comforts and safety of home.

Today, we're asking our community to help us surround this family with love. Together, we can transform an empty apartment into a home—a place where a little boy can rest after chemotherapy, his younger sister can play, and where his mom can finally take a deep breath.

Sometimes hope looks like a bed instead of an air mattress.
Sometimes hope looks like a couch to gather on.
Sometimes hope looks like curtains on a window, dishes in a cabinet, and knowing you're not alone.

Let's remind this family that although they are far from home, they have a community standing beside them.
