I’m working to build a climate-smart bee shelter—a small shed designed to hold several beehives so they can be managed from inside, instead of out in the heat.

Here in Alabama, beekeeping often means working in 90–100°F temperatures, lifting heavy boxes while wearing protective gear. Over time, that takes a toll. I’ve dealt with back problems myself, and there are days when working hives the traditional way just isn’t realistic.

At the same time, the bees are out there in those same conditions, fully exposed to sun and weather.

This project is a simple idea:

What if the hives were sheltered?

The plan is to install up to 6 hives into one side of a shed, with openings that allow the bees to fly freely outside while the hives are accessed from inside. It creates shade, protection from the elements, and a more manageable way to work.

I’m raising $10,000 to purchase the shed and have it properly modified with hive openings and basic construction work.

This isn’t a product launch or a large operation—it’s a working prototype. I want to build it, use it through the season, and see if it actually makes a difference for both the bees and the beekeeper.

If it does, it could be a practical option for others—especially those who want to keep bees but struggle with heat, lifting, or long-term sustainability.

If you’d like to support the project and help me get it built, I truly appreciate it.
