The Legacy Run: The Final Victory Lap

THE SECRET IS OUT (BUT ONLY FOR US) For 48 years, Coach Warthan hasn’t just been timing laps; he’s been building legends. On June 7, 2026, we are coming together for a surprise that is nearly half a century in the making. Coach Warthan is a man who avoids the spotlight and shuns material gifts—so we aren't giving him a trophy. We are giving his legacy a home.

From "Road Warriors" to a Permanent Home

For decades, as the landscape of our school changed and the original cross country course was repurposed for other facilities, Coach Warthan didn't complain. He didn't lower his standards. He simply moved the work to the streets.

He turned the neighborhoods, the grass loops of Lower Cascades, and the Bloomington Rail Trails into his "office". He proved that a championship culture doesn't require a pristine stadium—it requires grit. The proof is in the bookends: Coach won his first State Title in 1980 with a home course, and his most recent State Title in 2024 without one.

The Surprise: The North Course Dedication

To honor a man who gave everything to the sport, we have spent months preparing a secret. At the event, we will officially dedicate the new North Course in his honor. Located on beautiful private land with rolling hills and wildflowers, it will finally provide a permanent, challenging place for future generations to "bite down" and find their extra gear.

We want this homecoming to be a reflection of the excellence Coach Warthan modeled for us. While we are raising funds to outfit the North Course with professional markers and a permanent podium, the most important part of this tribute is YOU!

The greatest gift we can give Coach is the sight of his "Legacy Run" spanning nearly five decades. Here is how you can help make this meaningful:

Be There: Mark your calendar for June 7th. Whether you ran for him in 1978 or 2025, your presence at the finish line is the "extra" this event needs.

Be the Messenger: Coach isn't on social media, so share it! But, Please text or email this link to at least two individuals to spread the news. A personal invite from a fellow runner, teammate or parent is more powerful than any public post.
